There’s a cap on how much XP you can earn for the Undaunted skill line every day in The Elder Scrolls Online, and you have to be strong enough to handle it. Thankfully, there’s another option if you aren’t afraid to spend some gold.

In this guide, I’m going to explain how to get the Undaunted skill line to the maximum level in The Elder Scrolls Online. Even though it can take a while and be quite a grind, let’s not be daunted here. Let’s be Undaunted, delve into the unknown, and get that skill line to max level or at least level 9, which is where you unlock the most pertinent passives.

Over the course of the guide, I’m going to explain how to unlock the Undaunted skill line, how to grind out Undaunted XP every day, the various different methods you have at your disposal for doing so. Now, let’s get into how to level the Undaunted skill line.

Bolgrul, the Undaunted Delve quest-giver, in the Undaunted Enclave at Elden Root.

How to Unlock Undaunted in ESO

First things first, we’re going to need to talk about how to unlock Undaunted. At level 10, you gain access to the quests given out by Bolgrul. He’s located at the Undaunted Enclave.

These are located in the capital cities of each alliance. So for Aldmeri Dominion, it’s Elden Root. For Daggerfall Covenant, it’s Wayrest. And for Ebonhart Pact, it’s Mournhold. That’s where the other quest givers are, too. But we’re going to talk about Bolgrul for a second.

Bolgrul’s Quests

He starts giving you Delve quests at level 10. They take you to random delves throughout the base Alliance Zones of Tamriel, and they award 10 Undaunted XP upon completion. You can only get one of these per day per character, but they’re a great way to start leveling up undaunted before you get to level 45.

You can also keep doing them every day to get a little bit more XP. His quests give 10 XP each, which is not very much, but it does help with leveling undaunted. To access the other Undaunted daily quests, you’ll need to get to level 45 and do a little bit of legwork.

Undaunted Invitation

When you hit level 45, you automatically receive a piece of mail in your inventory called “Undaunted Invitation” that that will direct you to go to the inn in your starter city. So for Aldmeri Dominion, that’s the Salted Wings Tavern in Vulkhel Guard. For Daggerfall Covenant, that’s the Rosy Lion in Daggerfall. And for Ebonhart Pact, that’s the Watch House in Davon’s Watch.

When you get to the inn, you’ll need to talk to an NPC who has a quest giver icon over their heads. In Aldmeri Dominion, for instance, it’s Turuk Redclaws. This NPC will ask you if you want to join the Undaunted. Then they’ll send you to the dungeon that is in the first zone in your alliance.

In Auridon, that’s going to be The Banished Cells. In Glenumbra, that’s going to be Spindleclutch. And in Stonefalls, it’s going to be Fungal Grotto. You’re going to want to go to the first version of each dungeon. So, in this case, Fungal Grotto I.

All you have to do is set foot inside the dungeon and then come back and report to Turuk. And then the real challenge begins. You have to sit through a full minute of these guys bantering back and forth with really cringe voice lines going “Undaunted, undaunted, undaunted.” The pacing is terrible. It’s one of the worst examples of NPC dialogue in the entire game. Sorry guys, but it’s terrible.

But, all you have to do is sit through that and then you’re good to go. Again, you do need to be level 45 for this whole thing to trigger. But then you’ll be part of the Undaunted and you’ll gain access to the daily pledges.

Maj al-Ragath, Base Game Dungeon quest-giver in the Undaunted Enclave at Elden Root (ESO).

How to Level the Undaunted Skill Line in ESO

To pick up the daily pledges, you have to go to the Undaunted Enclave, and you need to start by talking to Maj al-Ragath. You basically say you want to do pledges and then they unlock. You’ll see that there are three different NPCs in the enclave that each have daily quest icons over their heads.

Undaunted Quest-Givers

Maj al-Ragath gives you pledges for the easiest dungeons in the game like the ones we just mentioned. Banished Cells I, Fungal Grotto I, Spindleclutch I, etc.

Glirion the Redbeard gives you pledges for — again — base game dungeons, but some of the harder ones like Vaults of Madness, Crypt of Hearts, etc.

The third NPC, Urgarlag Chiefbane, gives you pledges for DLC dungeons. These are going to be a lot harder.

Undaunted Pledges

With any reasonable degree of competency, you can clear the base game dungeons solo, especially if you have a companion. But, the DLC dungeons are going to be a lot harder.

So, you simply pick up the pledge and then go to the dungeon. You can either go to it directly by navigating to it on your map, or you can queue for it in the Dungeon Finder by going to specific dungeons and then finding the dungeon that is listed in the pledge. This will hook you up with a whole squad of people.

If you have any doubt that you’re going to be able to clear the dungeon, you should definitely queue instead of going there directly. That is, of course, unless you’ve already gotten a group together ahead of time.

Dungeon quests and Normal Undaunted Pledges give +25 Undaunted Reputation in The Elder Scrolls Online.

Undaunted Reputation Per Pledge

Completing the pledge will yield you +25 to Undaunted. Also, if you complete the quest that you find at the beginning of the dungeon (every dungeon has a quest giver who’s located near the entrance) that will also give you +25 to Undaunted, and that’s at Normal mode.

If you complete the dungeon on Veteran mode, that’s +50 to Undaunted. And, if you complete the dungeon on Veteran Hardmode, that’s +100.

Veteran dungeons are quite difficult, however. It is possible to solo them if they’re base game dungeons. Some people can even solo Veteran DLC dungeons, but if you’re going to go Veteran, you probably want to group and you probably want to be at least CP600 before you try them.

Though, with the power creep in the game recently, it’s sometimes possible to clear Veteran dungeons at a much lower CP level.

So, every time you do a pledge, make sure to complete the dungeon’s quest while you’re at it. And if you want an extra boost, try it on Veteran or Veteran Hardmode.

There are only three Undaunted quests that you can pick up per day per character. That means you’ll get a maximum of 300 XP to your Undaunted skill line on a daily basis.

However, you can also complete Trial quests to get Undaunted XP. Trials are 12-man raid experiences. Near the entrance of the Trial, you’ll find an NPC who gives you a repeatable quest.

For every Normal Trial quest you complete, that’s +50 to Undaunted. And if you complete the Veteran Trial quest, that’s +100.

How Much XP Per Undaunted Level in ESO?

Before we go on to some of the other ways that you can level your Undaunted skill line, I want to mention how long it takes to get to each level. To get from level 1 to 2, you only need 50 Undaunted reputation. To get to level 3, you need 150. For level 4, it’s 200. Level 5, another 200 — and then on from there.

So, if you’re just doing the daily pledges on normal, it’ll take 8 pledges total to get there. Simply doing the daily Undaunted pledges — and maybe Bolgrul’s quest — while making sure you also complete the dungeon’s quest is the most efficient way to level the Undaunted.

Undaunted Citations for sale at a Guild Trader in Elden Root in The Elder Scrolls Online.

Other Undaunted Leveling Methods

There are also two different ways you can pay to get to max level. The first is buying Undaunted Citations from Guild Traders. These vary in price. Generally on PS5 or Xbox, they’re going to cost between 10 and 20k gold. Each Undaunted Citation gives you +15 to Undaunted.

It will cost you a lot of gold to get to max Undaunted level this way, but you might find it worth it.

Buying the Skill Line for Crowns

If you’re trading gold for crowns, however, it might be cheaper just to buy the whole skill line from the shop. To do so, you go to the Crown Store, go to Upgrades, and then scroll down to the Skill Line section.

If you have already gotten to level 10 Undaunted on one character at least, the Undaunted skill line will be available for purchase in the shop for 3,000 Crowns. You do, however, have to get at least one character to level 10 for this even to be an option.

And, it does cost 3,000 crowns, which is pretty steep. But given the fact that it takes probably 50 or even more Citations to get to max level, this might be the cheaper option depending on what the ratio of Crowns-to-gold is on your particular server.

Summary

I believe I’ve covered all the different ways you can level Undaunted. I’ve covered how you unlock the skill line, so now it’s time for a quick summary.

You can start grinding through Undaunted at level 10 by doing Bolgrul’s daily quests. Once you get to level 45, however, you’ll gain an invitation to the Undaunted Enclave.

After going through an introductory quest, you’ll gain access to your daily pledge quests. These are a much more efficient method of leveling Undaunted, especially if you do the Veteran or Veteran Hardmode options. You can also level Undaunted by doing repeatable Trial quests. Plus, you can buy Undaunted citations in guild stores, and the price fluctuates.

If you’ve gotten to max Undaunted on at least one character, you can even buy the whole Undaunted skill line from the crown store, getting you to max level instantly.

For me, Undaunted is really worth it for this passive Undaunted Mettle which gives you a significant boost to all your core stats. Necrotic Orb is also a really good skill, and people also love Blood Altar.
