Becoming an ESO Plus member opens up a whole new world of possibilities in The Elder Scrolls Online. In this guide, I’m going to run through the top seven things you should do first as a new ESO Plus subscriber.
From collecting all the Companions in the game to figuring out what to do with your monthly Crowns, we’ll cover it all in this guide.
What is ESO Plus?
ESO Plus is an optional subscription in The Elder Scrolls Online that gives you access to a wide range of benefits. In addition to double inventory and bank space, you also gain access to the Craft Bag for infinite crafting material storage.
Your rate of experience gain increases by 10% as an ESO Plus subscriber, and you gain access to the entire map in the game — whether or not you own a specific DLC.
As I mentioned, ESO Plus is optional. It is not strictly required to play the game, but most long-term players end up getting ESO Plus because of how dramatically it changes your experience in The Elder Scrolls Online.
If you just get it for 1 month, ESO Plus costs $14.99. The price has not changed as the release of the game, and it is the same on all platforms.
The price-per-month goes down the more months you buy at a time. If you get 12 months of ESO Plus, for instance, the price per month goes down to about $12.
As an ESO Plus member, you also get 1,650 Crowns for every month you’ve subscribed, plus a Tome Cache for every month of your subscription, which you can apply to either the free or paid track of Tamriel Tomes. Each Cache contains 2,000 Tome Points.
Now that you know what ESO Plus is and the perks that might make it worth it, let’s cover the first seven things you should do when you subscribe to ESO Plus.
1.) What should I do with my ESO Plus Crowns?
The most useful application of the 1,650 Crowns you get each month as an ESO Plus subscriber is purchasing DLCs. You’ll retain access to any DLC content you buy even if your ESO Plus subscription lapses.
Technically, you can use your ESO Plus Crowns for anything you want — Skill Styles, Arms Packs, or even Houses. However, many subscribers choose to invest in DLCs instead.
If you remain an ESO Plus subscriber for 3 months, that nets you just shy of 5,000 Crowns, which is enough to get a main chapter DLC like Gold Road, Blackwood, or Northern Elsweyr.
Dungeon DLCs only cost 1,500 Crowns, so you can get one of those with a single month of ESO Plus — but they aren’t as valuable as main chapter DLCs or side DLCs like Firesong.
These side DLCs, which also include the Deadlands, Markarth, and Dragonhold, costs 2,000 Crowns. So, you can get one of these with only two months of ESO Plus subscription.
Unless you plan to be an ESO Plus subscriber forever, I recommend getting DLCs first. It’s the best bang for your buck and ensures you’ll retain access to the whole world of Tamriel, even if your subscription lapses.
A.) Do you get Tome Caches as an ESO Plus subscriber?
Yes, you one Tome Cache for every month that you’re an ESO Plus subscriber. You can then apply your caches to active Tamriel Tomes — whether you’ve gotten the free or the Premium track.
It’s best to hang on to your Tome Caches until a Tamriel Tome comes along that you really like. Grinding Tome Points through Challenges is pretty easy as it is, so, there’s usually no advantage in rushing to completion by using up your Tome Caches.
Hoard your Tome Caches for as long as you can, then splurge at the end of a Season if there’s a Tamriel Tome you really like, but you haven’t fully unlocked it yet.
2.) How do you unlock Companions when you have ESO Plus?
One of the first things you should do as a new ESO Plus subscriber is unlock all of the Companions in the game. To view all the available Companions, go to Collections > Allies > Companions.
Once you have ESO Plus, you can begin any Companion unlock quest by simply selecting the desired Companion within this screen.
Personally, my favorite companions are Zerith-var, Sharp-As-Night, and Ember. Play the video above to review my Companion tier list covering all the different companions, why I like or dislike them, and why.

But yes, I do recommend that you unlock every Companion you could ever conceivably want to roll with as the first real action you take as a new ESO Plus member.
If you don’t unlock a Companion when you have ESO Plus, you’ll need to purchase the DLC that Companion comes from instead from the Crown Store.
So, even just getting ESO Plus for a month and then getting all the Companions is a great way to maximize the value of your subscription.
A.) Are ESO Companions account-wide or character-specific?
Companions are character-specific in ESO. Once you’ve unlocked a Companion on a certain character, you’ll be able to summon that Companion with that character forever.
However, you’ll still need to go through the introductory quest and unlock that Companion on any subsequent characters.
3.) Does ESO Plus allow you to unlock Mythics?
Yes, ESO Plus provides access to the Greymoor Chapter, allowing you to unlock Scrying and hunt down Mythic items. It’s important to note that the Greymoor Chapter is becoming free in ESO Update 51.
To unlock Scrying, go to Western Skyrim, which is up at the top of the map. Go to the city of Solitude, and then head to the south of the city to the Antiquarian’s Circle.
There, you’ll talk to Verita Numida who will run you through a simple intro quest — after which Scrying will be permanently unlocked on that character.
A.) Is Scrying in ESO character-specific or account-wide?
Scrying is character-specific in The Elder Scrolls Online. So, if you want to unlock Scrying on multiple characters, make sure to do the intro quest on any characters you want to make capable of Scrying before your ESO Plus membership lapses.
Once you’ve unlocked and leveled scrying, review the video above to learn how to level Scrying. Once this skill line is fully leveled, you’ll be able to hunt down and farm some of the best items in the game — Mythic Uniques.
These include the Oakensoul Ring, Velothi’s Amulet, and the new Shattered Paths Signet. In addition to Mythics, there are plenty of amazing treasures and furnishings you can only get with Scrying.
4.) Does ESO Plus include Jewelry Crafting?
Yes, access to the Jewelry Crafting skill line is included with ESO Plus membership. To unlock this skill line, simply deconstruct a piece of Jewelry using a Jewelry Crafting Table or a Deconstructor Assistant.
Once you have ESO Plus, you can also unlock Jewelry Daily Crafting Writs. Simply go to the city of Alinor on the island of Summerset, and then find the NPC named Felarian, who is right outside the Alinor crafting area.
Felarian will run you through an intro quest for Jewelry Crafting, at which point Daily Jewelry Writs will be unlocked in that character.
5.) How do you unlock the Psijic Order Skill Line as an ESO Plus subscriber?
To unlock the Psijic Order skill line, you will either need ESO Plus or the Summerset DLC. Then, simply complete the first Zone Story Quest in Summerset, which takes place in Shimmerene.
The subsequent quest will lead you to the Keep of the Eleven Forces, where you’ll find a portal to Artaeum. Once you’re there, you’ll be taken to the Ceporah Tower, where you’ll begin the quest that will unlock the Psijic Order skill line.
A.) What are the rewards of the Psijic Order Questline in ESO?
In addition to allowing you to discover Psijic portals scattered throughout the world of Tamriel — which can contain rare crafting materials and style pages — the Psijic Order Questline unlocks the Face and Body Imprints of the Psijic Order cosmetics — some of the best free cosmetics in the game.
Plus, you’ll gain access to the Psijic Order skill line, which contains quite a few interesting and useful skills. The Psijic Order skill line only unlocks on a per-character basis.
6.) How do you unlock the Dragonguard Daily chest as an ESO Plus subscriber?
To unlock the Dragonguard Daily Chest as an ESO Plus subscriber, start by completing the Southern Elsweyr Questline, and then complete 24 Dragonguard Daily Quests picked up either from Dirge Truptor or Chizbari the Chipper in the Dragonguard Sanctum — an area you unlock during the Southern Elsweyr Questline.
Doing so unlocks the Dragonguard Daily Chest, a special chest near the Dragonguard Sanctum Wayshrine that refills every day, providing valuable alchemy ingredients and style pages. This chest unlocks on a per-character basis.
7.) Which rewards can you get from DLC Dungeons as an ESO Plus subscriber?
Rewards you can acquire simply by entering ESO DLC Dungeons for the first time include:
- Heroic Personality: Ruins of Mazzatun or Cradle of Shadows
- Renegade Dragon Priest Mask: Fang Lair
- Werewolf Hunter Hat: Moonhunter Keep
It’s important to reinforce that you don’t have to complete these dungeons to get their cosmetics — you just have to enter them for the first time.
Like all cosmetics, DLC dungeon entry cosmetics in ESO are unlocked account-wide, meaning you’ll be able to access them on all your characters.

Just subscribing for a single month will allow you to unlock so many great cosmetics, Companions, etc.
